Class Descriptions
Class Age Brackets:
Express Start: Ages 2-6,
Level 1: Ages 6-8,
Level 2: Ages 9-12,
Level 3: Ages 13+,
Adult: 18+
- Express Start 2: Ages 2-3 Beginning tap, jazz and ballet skills are taught through creative movement. This class is geared toward improving basic motor skills, agility and rhythm.
- Express Start 3: Ages 3-4 Beginning tap, jazz and ballet skills are taught through creative movement. This class is geared toward improving basic motor skills, agility and rhythm.
- Express Start 4: Ages 4-5 Beginning tap, jazz and ballet skills are taught through creative movement. This class is geared toward improving basic motor skills, agility and rhythm.
- Express Start 5: Ages 5-6 Beginning tap, jazz and ballet skills are taught through creative movement. This class is geared toward improving basic motor skills, agility and rhythm.
- Ballet: Ages 6 and older. Basic technique, positions and exercises will be covered as dancers develop poise, grace and confidence.
- Tap: Ages 6 and older. Rhythm, timing and agility will be cover in a fun, upbeat class that is sure to be enjoyed by all.
- Jazz: Ages 6 and older. Jumps, turns, leaps, flexibility and proper body placement will be focused on while learning steps and choreography to upbeat and current music.
- Hippity Hop: Ages 4-5. Fun, energetic and athletic movement and choreography will be taught to current and upbeat music.
- Hip Hop: Ages 6 and older. Fun, energetic and athletic movement and choreography will be taught to current and upbeat music.
- Pom Technique: Ages 6 and older. Get your pom poms out! Dancers will learn pom routines, cheers, kick lines all while learning proper pom technique.
- Musical Theater: Ages 6 and older. This class brings the exciting world of broadway to life. Students will learn how to act and move as if being in a musical. Some of the activities will consist of short monologues, skits, acting games and musical education. Your child will become more confident and comfortable speaking, acting and dancing infront of crowds. Both ensemble and solo performance will be fostered and encouraged. Expression Dance Studio's Musical Theater classes will not be in the June dance recital. Instead, they will have their own Musical Revue on Saturday, May 19, 2012, complete with professional choreography!
- Lyrical: Ages 9 and older. Dancers will learn how to express themselves through the lyrics of songs while blending ballet and jazz techniques. A ballet or jazz class is recommended in addition to the lyrical class.
- Tribal Style Belly Dance: This strength-building and exciting dance form blends characteristics of traditional Middle Eastern dances, Flamenco, Indian classical dance, and Romani (Gypsy) dance styles into a unique dance of its own. Designed for women of all ages and body types and sizes, This class will give you the basic vocabulary of moves and steps to build strength and endurance, improvise your own dance combinations, enjoy dancing with others, and celebrate the beauty of the female form!
- Zumba™: Zumba™ combines high energy and motivating music with unique moves and combinations that allow the Zumba™ participants to dance away their workout. It is based on the principle that a workout should be "FUN AND EASY TO DO" and leaving participants wanting to return. Zumba™ is a "feel-happy" dance workout that is a vacation for the mind and a gift for the body. You deserve both! ZUMBA™ is a fusion of Latin and International music - dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, effective fitness system! The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body, often burning between 400-600 per hour. Zumba™ utilizes the principles of fitness interval training and resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning and total body toning. It is a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps based on meringue, salsa, reggaeton, cumbia, bellydance, hiphop and more. ZUMBA™ is at a self paced program wherein you follow an instructor at your own comfort level. No prior experience necessary, just a desire to enjoy yourself. You'll be among friends and nobody makes any mistakes.
Dress Code and Shoes
Express Start Attire
Express Start Classes: These young dancers are welcome to wear the traditional leotard, skirt and tights. Dancers may also wear any outfit of their choice as long as they are able to move freely without distractions.
Ballet Attire
Solid color leotard (no prints), pink tights and ballet slippers. Any color skirt.
(Regulation ballet slippers* are required for all ballet classes and combination classes. No ponytails allowed. Hair must be worn in a bun.)

Jazz Attire
Comfortable form fitting dance wear. Tank tops, form fitting tops, leotards, spandex dance pants, shorts etc. Black Jazz shoes.
Hair must be worn pulled back off of the face in a pony tail. If hair is too short for a pony then may be worn in half up, half down fashion.
(Black jazz shoes* are required for all jazz classes)
Tap Attire
Comfortable dance clothing. No jeans allowed. Black Tap Shoes. Lace up or Velcro. Tap ties sold in Dance Apparel store located in the front of the studio.
Hair must be worn pulled back off of the face in a pony tail. If hair is too short for a pony then may be worn in half up, half down fashion.
(Black tap shoes* are required for all tap classes. Express Start and Level 1 dancers may wear patent leather tap shoes with velcro closure. Older dancers should wear lace up tap shoes.)

Hip Hop Attire
Comfortable dance clothing. T-shirts, tank tops, sweat pants, shorts etc. Hip Hop sneakers, jazz shoes or clean bottom gym shoes (used only for hip hop class).
Hair must be worn pulled back off of the face in a pony tail. If hair is too short for a pony then may be worn in half up, half down fashion.
(Dance sneakers*, jazz shoes, or clean bottom gym shoes are required)
Tribal Style Belly Dance
Belly Dancecomfortable clothing—full skirts and/or a scarf to tie around your hips just make it a bit more fun! Recommended footwear: jazz or ballet shoes are ideal, but bare feet or any soft flexible shoe should work as well.
Zumba
Wear comfortable form fitting athletic clothing and preferably smooth soled athletic shoes. Bring water, towel and possible change of shirt.
Musical Theater Attire
Comfortable clothes that may be moved around in. No jeans.
* All shoes, leotards, and dance wear are sold at the dance apparel store located at the front of the studio.
